Transitional Kitchen Bethlehem, PA

These homeowners were immediately recognized from their appearance on HGTV’s “House Hunter’s” show where this house was featured. Built in the mid-1700’s this home is one of the oldest of the historic district of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. As with any renovation of an older home there were many challenges, some obvious and some hidden. The extent of this renovation only compounded these challenges. A large masonry column was removed from the center of the kitchen serving to make the kitchen feel obviously larger but also to unify the main kitchen area with an adjacent breakfast area. An older built-in hutch is all that remained of the original space.

The shaker style cabinets were a perfect match for the age of the home, adding some interest but not overwhelming the space. The unlacquered brass faucets, hardware and light fixtures will patina nicely with use and age. The hood was constructed with materials from a reclaimed grain bin as well as another piece of furniture. Glazed and textured brickwork subway tiles finish the sink and range walls and feel like they have always been there. The honed Danby marble countertops and oiled finish hardwood floor add spectacular finishing touches. All the details of this room were carefully selected to be appropriate for the age of the house but to also include every modern amenity.
